Hobart Brewing is located down by the port area of Hobart in a huge old building very close to the cruise ship port and across the street from some university buildings. Sounds like a perfect location to us. We could only puzzle about why it wasn’t very crowded – as in almost empty – on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
We met a nice couple that lives in Hobart after moving from Adelaide for jobs. We discussed the few people at Shambles from the day before and T-Bone not opening until 2 P.M. on a Saturday. They just shrugged and said Hobart was a weird place and that people don’t really go to breweries. We asked the couple about live music at the tasting room, the couple just chuckled and explained that the brewery does have music occasionally, and it does bring in people, but the brewery just doesn’t do music or entertainment very often.
Think warehouse big! There’s a huge amount of room for people, both inside and outside. They have a nice bar that’s at one end of the building and setup in a “L” shape. You can see the brewery and the brewing equipment from the bar.
BTW … the co-founder is and American who learned to brew beer in Colorado. He could take a few marketing lessons from the Colorado breweries – tshirts, glasses, growlers, food trucks, entertainment …
